(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/30/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the hacking of an electronic interstate highway sign with White supremacist messages on Memorial Day.
Drivers on Interstate 65 reported seeing messages promoting the neo-Nazi group “Patriot Front” on an electronic highway sign. The Alabama Department of Transportation reported that the signs had been hacked. An investigation into the hacking is underway.

“We condemn this devious attempt to promote hate on our nation’s highways and urge Americans to stand together in repudiation of all bigoted ideologies,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
He noted that earlier this month, Washington, D.C., based CAIR condemned an incident of alleged racist harassment targeting a Black family in Homewood, Ala.
Hooper said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
