The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the far-right Israeli government’s closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque in the occupied West Bank city of Al-Khalil (Hebron) to allow illegal Israeli settlers to celebrate Jewish holidays.
In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“Because the far-right Israeli government believes Palestinian Muslims and Christians have no human or religious rights, its feels free to close a major house of worship so that those who illegally occupy the land can celebrate their religious holidays. This closure of a house of worship is just another demonstration of the fact that Palestinians are not viewed as human beings worthy of rights and dignity.
“We again call on the Biden administration to change course and end its uncritical and seemingly unlimited support for Israel’s racial and religious apartheid and for its genocide targeting the Palestinian people.”
Hooper added that last month, CAIR condemned the reported Israeli ban on the Islamic call to prayer from the Ibrahimi Mosque and the projection of an Israeli flag onto the Islamic house of worship.
He noted that also last month, CAIR condemned the takeover of the Ibrahimi Mosque by illegal Israeli settlers.
