The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the murder of the mayor of the town of Nabatieh in Lebanon by Israeli forces.
CAIR also condemned a reported plan by Israel’s ruling Likud Party to establish illegal settlements in Gaza.
An Israeli air strike on Nabatieh in southern Lebanon killed the city’s mayor and at least five others, wounding several more. The victims were reportedly conducting a daily crisis management meeting in a municipal building when it was bombed by Israel.

Israel’s Likud Party is reportedly holding an event promoting the resettlement of Gaza. The event organizers say they will reveal planned settlements and projects for Israeli settlers in Gaza.
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“The Israeli government has made it clear that it intends to expand its war across the region and resettle territories whose native populations they decimate. These are the actions of a rogue government that the Biden administration must stop enabling before more innocents are slaughtered and more chaos spreads.”
He noted that CAIR’s call comes as video posted online shows Israel destroying an entire Lebanese village, home to a religious shrine.
