CAIR Condemns Israel’s Systematic Destruction of West Bank Infrastructure as Part of ‘Campaign of Ethnic Cleansing’

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned Israel’s systematic destruction of the civilian infrastructure in the occupied West Bank as part of the far-right Israeli government’s campaign of ethnic cleansing.

Israeli bulldozers systematically destroy streets in the West Bank to make the area unlivable for Palestinians. Illegal Israeli settlers routinely destroy homes and property, often with the protection of the Israeli military. Residents are facing food and water shortages.

Earlier this week, CAIR said President Biden must “take the keys” away from far-right Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the death toll in the occupied West Bank reached at least 662 and Israel announced it will conduct ethnic cleansing operations in the West Bank similar to those underway in Gaza.

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

“When Israeli bulldozers rip up streets and illegal Israeli settlers burn houses and attack residents, it is all part of a coordinated and systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing. These war crimes are being enabled by the Biden administration’s indefensible failure to hold Israel accountable for its genocide, ethnic cleansing, destruction of civilian infrastructure, and forced starvation of an entire population.”

Earlier this week, CAIR called on the Biden administration to stop ignoring Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism within the government after a former State Department official revealed that she had witnessed, experienced and reported incidents of bigotry from officials involved in Gaza and Middle East policy, including a current high-ranking diplomat making a racist remark about Egyptians.

CAIR also today called on the State Department to stop deliberately violating U.S. laws that would forbid additional weapons transfers to the Israeli government, according to the former officials.
