(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/26/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned recent racist vandalism on the campus of Iowa’s Grinnell College.
More than a dozen cars on Grinnell’s campus were vandalized with racist language earlier this month. A sign was also defaced with the n-word and obscene imagery. Following the incident, the Black Student Union issued a list of demands for college administrators and the city to address, including cameras on campus, legal accountability for anti-Black hate crimes, self-defense training and self-defense kits, and mental health wellness resources.

“We condemn these hateful actions and urge campus and city officials to address the concerns brought forth by the Black Student Union,” said CAIR Research and Advocacy Director Corey Saylor. “Racist intimidation targeting students must not be tolerated on our nation’s college campuses.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
