(WASHINGTON D.C., 10/25/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the resignation of a North Carolina sheriff following the revelation of racist statement he allegedly made.

CAIR had previously called for his resignation and welcomed his suspension.
“We welcome this resignation and hope that other law enforcement authorities nationwide will take note that those who allegedly hold biased views toward minority communities are not fit to protect and serve those same communities,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
