(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/16/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called said it was “shameful” that American corporate CEOs gave Chinese leader Xi a standing ovation, despite that nation’s genocide targeting Uyghur Muslims and other Turkic minorities.
The CEOs in attendance at the event with Xi reportedly included Apple’s Tim Cook and BlackRock’s Larry Fink, along with leaders and senior executives from Qualcomm, Boeing, Blackstone, KKR, Pfizer, FedEx and other corporations. Many attendees stood for Xi despite that nation’s human rights record and President Biden’s reaffirmation that he recognizes Xi is a “dictator.”

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“It is shameful that our nation’s top business leaders would give a standing ovation for the Chinese dictator, who is responsible for locking millions of Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps, subjecting them to rape, torture, murder, forced sterilization and other acts of genocide.”
He said the Chinese government is targeting Uyghur Muslims and other Turkic ethnic minorities with a campaign of genocide. Millions of Uyghurs have been detained in concentration camps in which beatings, torture and rape are the norm. Millions more are being used as slave labor on plantations and in Chinese factories.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
