CAIR Condemns US Veto of UN Resolution Calling for Gaza Ceasefire

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the US veto of a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The UN Security Council voted on a resolution that called for an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire” and separately demanded the release of hostages. Only the US voted against, using its veto as a permanent council member to block the resolution.

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“President Biden now stands alone in shielding the Israeli government from accountability at the UN Security Council. The genocide in Gaza must end immediately because mass destruction, slaughter, forced starvation, and ethnic cleansing can never be acceptable for any reason. All hostages and political prisoners should also go free, as the resolution vetoed by the United States required.”

CAIR previously condemned the Biden administration’s veto of a U.N. resolution that could have resulted in full United Nations membership for the State of Palestine.
