CAIR Condemns White Supremacist Highway Banner in Virginia

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a highway banner reportedly put up by the white supremacist group Patriot Front in Virginia.

Roanoke, Virginia, police removed the banner that was hanging from an overpass on the Elm Avenue bridge over Interstate 581 early Friday morning.

Last week, CAIR condemned the distribution of white supremacist and racist propaganda in Virginia and Indiana.

“All Americans must push back against the increasing efforts by racists and white supremacists to spread their message of hatred and division nationwide,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Bigotry must never be allowed to flourish through the silence of those who respect mutual understanding and inclusion.”

Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
