CAIR-CT Calls on Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation to Oppose Illegal War Against Iran and Demand Vote on War Powers Resolution

The Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CT) today called on Connecticut’s members of Congress to publicly oppose the illegal and unauthorized war against Iran and to demand an immediate vote on an Iran War Powers Resolution.

CAIR-CT strongly condemns the involvement of the United States in the illegal and reckless war with Iran, which is a decision that was made without congressional authorization and at the behest of a foreign government. The American people should not be fighting a war that does not serve their interests.

“American service men and women should not be deployed to fight a war on behalf of a foreign leader,” said CAIR-CT chairman Farhan Memon. “The American people should not be asked to sacrifice their lives, their tax dollars, and their global reputation to advance the political interests of the indicted war criminal Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

CAIR-CT further stated that the Israel’s policies have already contributed to significant damage to America’s image and standing around the world. Engaging in another war in the Middle East risks further eroding global trust in the United States and deepening instability in the region.

CAIR-CT calls members of the congress to vote on the War Powers Resolution. This will force the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of introducing U.S. armed forces into hostilities or situations where hostilities are imminent.

“This is not just a policy disagreement, it is a constitutional issue,” Memon says. “Congress must fulfill its duty and assert its authority. Any military engagement with Iran requires debate, transparency, and a vote by the representatives of the American people.”

CAIR-CT warns the war against Iran could potentially result in the deaths of thousands of Americans, including U.S. service members and civilians, while also placing American communities at heightened risk. Such consequences cannot be justified to satisfy the demands or political objectives of a foreign government.

The economic cost of war. “At a time when families across Connecticut and the nation are struggling to afford groceries, rent, healthcare, and basic necessities, it is both insulting and humiliating to ask them to fund another costly foreign war.” “Instead of spending billions on war, Congress and the Administration should focus on reducing the cost of living and ensuring that American families can put food on the table.”

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
