(JACKSONVILLE, FL, 3/31/08) – The Jacksonville office of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-Jax) participated Saturday in MS Walk 2008 sponsored by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society North East Florida chapter. Some 50 Muslims joined more than 1000 other Jacksonville residents in a five-mile walk in the historic San Marco area.
Before the walk, Muslim participants purchased CAIR T-shirts, all proceeds from which were donated to the MS Walk fund.
Khadeeja Qadeer, a senior at Jacksonville University said about the walk: “All of us as Muslims were getting together to support a cause. The Islamic community needs to support more organizations like that to show that we care.”
CAIR, America’s largest Islamic civil liberties group, has 35 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
