CAIR: Delta banned Palestinian flag pins — now flight attendants are pushing back – The Forward

In a Thursday letter to Delta CEO Ed Bastian, a group of Delta flight attendants asked for protections against being photographed and recorded by passengers, calling it “non-consensual” and “harassment.”

After the pin policy change was announced this week, some flight attendants started an online petition saying the ban “not only violates Delta’s commitment to inclusivity, but also creates a chilling effect on any worker or passenger deemed ‘not American enough’ by a hateful few. This sets a dangerous precedent that is both dehumanizing and harmful to Delta’s reputation and ability to do business both here and around the world.”

The petition asks Delta to retract the new policy. “Our pins are not the problem,” they wrote. “Harassment, and Delta’s failure to stop it, are the problems.”

Vandals broke into a building in St. Anthony that is slated to become a new Islamic-focused youth center in late May and used fire extinguishers to spray the inside of the building and steal computers and other items.

They have come back to the Tibyan Center several times since, including Tuesday, and have caused more than $20,000 in damage, said Jaylani Hussein, executive director of the Minnesota Chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim rights and advocacy group.

“These attacks have shaken our community, and many members who were excited about the opportunity the new center represents are now feeling fearful and vulnerable,” Hussein said. “We believe these attacks may be part of a broader effort to intimidate and harm Muslim communities and we call on law enforcement and the community to help in bringing these perpetrators into custody.”

CAIR launched a letter-writing campaign to IOC President Thomas Bach, saying: “Since last year, more than 38,000 Palestinians, including at least 15,000 children, have been mercilessly killed in the Israeli government’s indiscriminate attacks on Gaza. These are not isolated incidents but part of a systematic campaign of violence and extermination. Just as the Russian invasion of Ukraine led to the firm action by the IOC, the ongoing atrocities committed by Israel demand accountability and consequences.”

“There really is no reason why Alabama needs to perform an autopsy,” said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, national deputy director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which is the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the country. “There will be no mystery about how he died. No question of how he passed away.”
