CAIR-Chicago: Oak Lawn settles lawsuit accusing police officer of beating teen in July 2022 – Chicago Tribune

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, which filed the original lawsuit alongside Abdallah Law, said in an statement Monday the three officers who apprehended the teen “engaged in extreme and outrageous conduct” and the village created a false narrative to justify their actions.

“We are deeply concerned that a settlement may allow the officers and the village to evade meaningful accountability,” CAIR communications coordinator Jordan Esparza-Kelley said. “This is not just about justice … it is about preserving public trust and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are not used to shield law enforcement from consequences.”

CAIR-MN: What to know about Trump’s threat to end Temporary Protected Status for Somalis in Minnesota – Star Tribune

Jaylani Hussein, executive director of Council on American-Islamic Relations, Minnesota chapter, (CAIR-MN) said at a Monday news conference that it was a claim the FBI had never made regarding money stolen through fraud schemes. The agency had traced taxpayer funds to land and other purchases, but never definitively to terrorist groups.

“This is an organized effort that we are seeing, specifically on social media, to target our community,” Hussein said. “We do not want an escalation of political violence, which we believe could come out of the rhetoric we are seeing today.”

“This decision, fueled by harmful misinformation campaigns that we believe have external political motives, will tear families apart and send individuals to a country they have not known for over 20 years,” said CAIR Minnesota Executive Director Jaylani Hussein, in a statement. “This is not just a bureaucratic change; it is a political attack on the Somali and Muslim community driven by Islamophobic and hateful rhetoric. We strongly urge President Trump to reverse this misguided decision.”
