CAIR: Judge grants Palestinian Solidarity Committee standing to sue UT for free speech violations – Austin American-Statesman

In a news release Tuesday, the Council for Islamic American Relations, a civil rights and advocacy group that filed the lawsuit on behalf of the plaintiffs, called Pittman’s order “a major win for anti-genocide protestors across the country,” saying the court’s ruling holds that “government rules generally forbidding students from criticizing Israel are unconstitutional.”

“The court’s ruling confirms what we already knew,” said Gadeir Abbas, a national deputy litigation director at CAIR representing the plaintiffs. The government cannot make special rules insulating Israel from criticism, and pretending those rules are about antisemitism does not save them from constitutional scrutiny.”

CAIR: Updated Policy Governing Time, Place, and Manner of Expressive Activity, Effective 10/29/24 – Smith College

Following last year’s protest activity on campuses around the country, including here at Smith, the president’s team and I identified the need to provide the community with clearer expectations for campus demonstrations, protests, and other expressive activities. This is particularly important at a moment when people are not in agreement about the boundaries for expressive activity or its content. In addition, several organizations, including the U.S. Department of Education, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Anti-Defamation League, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and the American Jewish Committee, strongly advised colleges and universities to review their policies and update them if necessary, to provide their communities with clearer guidance. Our own policy was in need of such an update.

CAIR: ‘Betrayed by Democrats’: Muslim voters in battleground Pennsylvania turn to other options – Daily Express US

Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Philadelphia, Ahmet Tekelioglu, said while Muslims in the state have traditionally backed the Democrats, many felt “betrayed” by the party.

“Many of these people do not want to see a Trump presidency and are concerned about a potential Trump presidency. But at the same time, they feel like there needs to be a consequence for the utter disregard that the Democratic Party has shown in the face of the genocide in Gaza,” he said.

“The community is feeling very much undervalued overall by the political elite. I think that has created a deep trust gap between the political elite and our community.”

Tekelioglu said he expects many Muslims in Pennsylvania will either abstain from voting or back a Third-Party candidate next week.

CAIR: Donald Trump sees himself as ‘protector’ of Israel – The Week

Trump’s vision of a Monaco-informed Gaza “has gained little traction,” John T. Bennett said at Roll Call. It amounts to a plan to “ethnically cleanse millions of Palestinians from their land” and to do so “for the sake of beachfront property is either genocidal or delusional — or both,” said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, national deputy director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Trump, Bennett said, “did not mention the Gazan population” in his musings.
