(BOSTON, MA, 5/4/2022) – The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a racist email sent to Black students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
On Tuesday evening, several Black students and one campus office received an email containing “deeply racist language,” according to a statement by University of Massachusetts Amherst Chancellor Kumble R. Subbaswamy. The letter is reportedly similar to one sent to Black students in the fall of 2021.
The university is seeking help from law enforcement to identify the source of the email. The investigation into the original email sent last year is still ongoing, and police have said such investigations are often difficult.

“We condemn this despicable act of racist hate and stand in solidarity with Black students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst,” said CAIR-MA Executive Director Tahirah Amatul-Wadud.
She said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, white supremacy and all other forms of bigotry.
