CAIR-MA Condemns String of Racist Incidents

(BOSTON, MA, 9/7/2023) – The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a neo-Nazi group’s protest outside a hotel hosting migrants in Marlborough, the hanging of posters promoting a white supremacist group in Oak Bluffs and the rigging of an electronic road sign in Boston to display a racist message.

Members of a neo-Nazi organization held a gathering outside an Extended Stay America in Marlborough, where migrants were reportedly staying. The members of the group carried anti-immigrant banners and reportedly chanted anti-immigrant slogans. They dispersed before police arrived at the scene.

An electronic road sign on a busy Boston street displayed the message “KKK meeting today” over the weekend. Police are investigating the incident, and do not currently know if the sign was hacked by an outside third-party or if the message was displayed by an employee.

“The increase in activity by white supremacist and neo-Nazi organizations in our state is deeply concerning,” said CAIR-MA Executive Director Tahirah Amatul-Wadud. “The people of this state stand united in repudiation of this bigoted propaganda and the hatred it promotes.”

She added that CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging white supremacy, antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and all other forms of bigotry.
