(FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, 3/1/17) – The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for the resignation of a city clerk who posted an anti-Muslim message on social media.
Plymouth City Clerk Linda Langmesser is currently facing an internal investigation for a Facebook post targeting an American Muslim woman who left her job at the White House in the early days of the Trump Administration. Langmesser’s post claimed that the former White House staffer was being deceitful “because that’s what they do in their culture” and that she “should be sent back to where she can worship the koran [sic].”
Langmasser has since removed the post and has presented no evidence that her Facebook account was hacked.
“If Ms. Langmasser cannot present evidence that she did not post the anti-Muslim message on her social media account, she should immediately resign from her position,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid. “No public servant should be representing the interests of the people and overseeing elections while at the same time holding clearly bigoted views.”
Walid also noted that there is a growing Muslim community in the Plymouth – Canton area where he himself is a resident.
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
La misión de CAIR es mejorar la comprensión del Islam, fomentar el diálogo, proteger las libertades civiles, capacitar a los musulmanes estadounidenses, y construir coaliciones que promuevan la justicia y la comprensión mutua.
