(CANTON, MI, 5/1/2023) – The Michigan chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations- Michigan (CAIR-MI), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned antisemitic neo-Nazi vandalism targeting Michigan’s Jewish community in Oakland County.
Police are investigating reports of hate crimes after a synagogue and a Jewish family’s baby stroller was vandalized with antisemitic symbols in Royal Oak and Oak Park in Oakland County over the weekend. In one incident, it was reported that a synagogue in Royal Oak was spray-painted with a Nazi swastika.

In a second incident reported over the weekend in Oak Park, a city with a historically large Jewish population that borders Royal Oak, a stroller left outside the home of a Jewish family was spray-painted with a nazi swastika.

In response to these incidents, CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid said:
“CAIR-MI condemns these bigoted acts of antisemitism and vandalism in the strongest possible terms and stands in solidarity with the Jewish community. Incidents of bias and hate based on religious animus cannot be tolerated and we call on Michiganders to report all such incidents to local law enforcement.
“We call on local authorities in the cities of Royal Oak and Oak Park to take quick action to investigate these incidents and to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.”
He said CAIR-MI and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
