CAIR-Minnesota to Hold Press Conference Following Federal Court Hearing on Firing of Muslim UM Employee Over Pro-Palestine Posts

Community members to rally outside courthouse in support of fired worker, Palestinian human rights

On Wednesday, July 30, the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Minnesota), along with the Law Office of Jordan S. Kushner, will hold a press conference outside the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Minneapolis following a key summary judgment hearing in a case involving the firing of a Muslim employee by the University of Minnesota over personal social media posts expressing support for Palestinian human rights.

WHAT: Press Conference on Legal Case Involving Firing of Muslim Employee Over Pro-Palestine Posts

WHEN: Wednesday, July 30, 2:30 PM (Immediately after 1:30 PM court hearing)

WHERE: Outside U.S. Federal Courthouse, 300 S 4th St, Minneapolis, MN 55415

WHO:  Law Office of Jordan S. Kushner, CAIR-MN leaders, community members, and supporters

CONTACT: Jaylani Hussein, Executive Director of CAIR-MN, 612-406-0070, jhussein@cair.com; Suleiman Adan, Deputy Director of CAIR-MN, 612-408-7183, sadan@cair.com

The court hearing begins at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 13E before Judge Ann D. Montgomery. The press conference will take place at 2:30 p.m. outside the courthouse, or immediately after the hearing. Community members and supporters are expected to gather in solidarity with the employee and to raise awareness of growing concerns about retaliation against employees for their constitutionally protected speech.

Law Office of Jordan S. Kushner legal team will provide updates on the case and broader implications for civil liberties, workplace discrimination, and the right to free speech in Minnesota and beyond.

CAIR-Minnesota will also highlight a pattern of similar cases statewide, where employees have faced disciplinary actions or termination for voicing support for Palestinian human rights, raising alarms about workplace censorship and discrimination.

Earlier this year, CAIR released its 2025 Civil Rights Report “Unconstitutional Crackdowns,” which reveals that Islamophobia continues to be at an all-time high across the country. CAIR said viewpoint discrimination against those speaking out against genocide and apartheid was a key factor in many cases.

CAIR chapters across the country have condemned actions targeting peaceful expressions of support for Palestinians, and continue to advocate for employee rights, freedom of speech, and protection from religious and political discrimination.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
