(ST. LOUIS, MO, 7/21/2023) – The Missouri chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MO), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today decried a vote by the Francis Howell School Board in O’Fallon, Mo., to drop a resolution against racism passed three years ago during nationwide Black Lives Matter protests.
A conservative majority on the board voted to “sunset” the resolution, currently displayed in school buildings, which calls racism “a crisis that negatively impacts our students, our families, our community, and our staff.”

In a statement reacting to the vote, CAIR-Missouri Board Chair Yasir Ali said:
“It is imperative for educational institutions to cultivate a safe learning environment in which every student can study important facts, including facts about the history of racism in America from past to present. The district’s decision is sending precisely the wrong message to students and staff at the wrong time. We urge the district to reconsider its stance.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
