CAIR-New Jersey to Host Families, Community Leaders to Speak on Starvation in Gaza, Demand End to Genocide

On Wednesday, July 30, the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) will host a press conference with New Jersey families whose loved ones are suffering under the US-backed Israeli genocide in Gaza to highlight the impact of starvation, demand aid enters the enclave and reiterate calls to end the genocidal campaign.

The press conference will feature several families who have lost dozens of loved ones in the abhorrent and devastating conditions in the assault on Gaza by the Israeli military. These families will share personal testimonies of grief and loss. They will urge US officials to intervene to allow aid to enter Gaza immediately and demand a ceasefire.

WHY NOW:

More than 60,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed in Gaza. The IPC has stated that Gaza was on the brink of famine for two years, indicating catastrophic levels of food insecurity for well over 500,000 Palestinians. This is a direct result of Israel’s shutting down of the Gaza border, where thousands of aid trucks wait to enter Gaza with much needed aid.

Israel’s denying of aid has killed at least 147 by starvation, of whom 88 are children, since October 2023, though the number is likely much higher. Israel has repeatedly targeted Palestinians at aid sites, killing more than 1,100 people.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
