(BALTIMORE, Md., 8/3/20) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s) responsible for the murder of a 30-year-old pregnant Muslim woman in Columbia, Maryland on Friday evening.

The victim, Rabiah Ahmad, was taken to University of Maryland’s Shock Trauma Center where she later died from her injuries. She was 28-weeks pregnant; her infant daughter, Ahja, was delivered and is in critical condition.
“Our goal in offering a reward is to encourage anyone with information about this horrific crime to come forward and help deliver justice for Rabiah and her family,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry, who met with the victim’s family Sunday at the hospital. “At this point, there are too many unanswered questions and the community’s help can make a tremendous difference.”

In a joint statement to CAIR, Ahmad’s family said:
“In the Name of Allah. Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer. We are asking – no pleading with the fine people of the Howard County community to assist us in finding the person(s) responsible for the murder of our beloved. Because of this senseless act, Rabiah’s little baby girl, Ahja is left to fight the battle of her little life. A little precious life who should still be in her Mommy’s womb right now, whole and healthy. This is a great and devastating blow to the entire Ahmad-Najiy-Dawson-Bailey families. This doesn’t make sense. Please help us find lil’ Rabiah’s killer. Thank you.”
CAIR is in touch with Howard County Police and is monitoring developments in the case.
The Howard County Police Department is offering a separate $5K reward to anyone with information about the incident. Tips can be submitted to police at 410-313-STOP or HCPDCrimeTips@howardcountymd.gov. Callers can remain anonymous.
Police are also encouraging residents in the area to check their doorbell and security footage for any activity last evening, especially around 11 p.m. which is the approximate time the incident occurred.
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
