(COLUMBUS, Ohio 5/4/06) – The Ohio Chapters of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) is sponsoring the 1st Annual Youth Concert for the Muslim Youth of North America (MYNA) on Saturday, May 6 at 6:30 pm.
The concert, which will benefit MYNA, will be held at the Southern Theatre in downtown Columbus and will feature groups such as Native Deen and 786. Comedian Ramez Habbal will also be performing at the event.
“Supporting Islamic entertainment is paramount for young Muslims; it enables Muslim youth to be connected to the arts while maintaining their religious values,” said Adnan Mirza, CAIR-Columbus Director.
Mirza added that the event also falls under CAIR’s new Y-CAIR initiative (Youth-CAIR), which is designed to empower Muslim youth and introduce them to the benefits of community service.
CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties group, has 32 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. The CAIR-Ohio Chapter has three offices: Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. CAIR’s mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
