After Ceremony Build Bridges by Visiting with Your Legislators
(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, 11/15/16) – The Oklahoma chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) today urged community members and supporters to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
The ceremony will include the swearing-in of newly re-elected Representative John Bennett (R-Sallisaw) who has a long history of public Islamophobia. Most recently, Representative Bennett authored an interim study on “Radical Islam, the Muslim Brotherhood, and Sharia Law in Oklahoma.” This study, called a “clear waste of taxpayer funds” by The Oklahoman, targeted and demonized the Oklahoma Muslim community in unprecedented ways, suggesting that all Oklahoma mosques and major Muslim organizations are involved in terrorism.
IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED:
On November 16, 2016 at 9:30am, join CAIR-OK and the interfaith community on the south plaza of the Oklahoma State Capitol and attend the swearing in of Representative John Bennett.
After the swearing in ceremony, attendees will be encouraged to talk with their legislators as their legislators are available and make visits to their office to request that they be a voice against hatred & bigotry in serving our state.
