The goal of the task force is to make OKC the 68th U.S. city to establish a Human Right Commission to advise the city on issues related to human rights, including ending Islamophobia, encouraging interfaith dialogue, and making Oklahoma City into a diverse, inclusive, and equitable place for all its residents.
The task force will propose a formal framework for the reinstatement of a Human Rights Commission, which served our city for 30 years before being dissolved in 1996. In re-creating the Human Rights Commission, we hope to establish a mechanism to guide the City Council on matters of civil liberties, discrimination, and human rights throughout the metro area.
