On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will join students and partners to hold a news conference outside Johns Hopkins University to announce a joint letter signed by over 50 faith-based organizations and advocacy groups including CAIR Maryland, Jewish Voice for Peace Baltimore, Doctors Against Genocide and CASA calling on Governor Wes Moore, Attorney General Anthony Brown, and state lawmakers to take emergency action to prohibit colleges and universities in Maryland from sharing student data with federal agencies unless a warrant signed by a judge is presented.
Many students and faculty members at colleges and universities across the country have been recently detained by federal agents amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration, which has taken aim at campuses where student activists have criticized Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. An alarming memo recently sent by Johns Hopkins University’s Office of General Counsel to faculty and staff instructs them to “not intervene if federal law enforcement officers arrive” on campus to detain any individual.
