CAIR-Philadelphia Mourns Passing of Rabbi Waskow, a ‘Steadfast Friend, Partner, and Moral Voice For Justice’

The Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Philadelphia), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today mourned the passing of Rabbi Arthur Ocean Waskow.

In a statement, CAIR-Philadelphia said:

“CAIR-Philadelphia mourns the passing of Rabbi Arthur Ocean Waskow, a steadfast friend, partner, and moral voice for justice. His life’s work embodied the courage to speak truth, the compassion to build bridges, and the faith to envision a world transformed by love and equity.

“We are deeply grateful for Rabbi Arthur’s unwavering support and leadership in movements that demanded not only reform, but radical change rooted in dignity, solidarity, and shared humanity. His memory will continue to inspire all who strive for a just and compassionate world.

“We send our condolences to Rabbi Phyllis Berman and the Shalom Center community; may his legacy be a charge to continue the work he so boldly advanced.”

His funeral will be held on Wednesday at Mishkan Shalom (4101 Freeland Ave).
