CAIR Reiterates Condemnation of Mississippi Gov’s ‘Confederate Heritage Month,’ ‘Memorial Day’ Proclamation

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today reiterated its condemnation of Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves’ proclamation naming April as Confederate Heritage Month and April 28 as Confederate Memorial Day.

Washington, D.C., based CAIR condemned similar proclamations in past years and in other states

The Mississippi Free Press notes that “neither the governor nor any other state official publicizes the proclamations or posts them on any public-facing state websites or social-media pages.”

“The fact that Governor Reeves and other state officials choose not to publicize their annual effort to honor the traitors and white supremacists of the Confederacy is a clear indication that they recognize these proclamations are out of step with the majority of Americans who repudiate the racist legacy of the Confederacy,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.

He said CAIR has repeatedly called for the removal of Confederate names, holidays, flags, statues, and symbols nationwide.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
