CAIR Reps to Take Part in USCMO 8th National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill in D.C., June 12-13

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/5/23) – On Monday, June 12, and Tuesday, June 13, representatives of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) plan to join Muslims from across the country taking part in the 8th annual National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

This year, advocacy days participants will focus their lobbying efforts on:

  • Establishing July as Muslim American Heritage Month
  • Combating and monitoring global Islamophobia
  • Ending unconstitutional watchlist abuses

Hosted by the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), a coalition of leading national and local Muslim organizations, the advocacy days are expected to draw hundreds of Muslim delegates from across the nation. This two-day event is designed to connect national, regional, and state Muslim organizations and community members with their elected representatives in Congress.

[NOTE: Last year, more than 300 delegates from 20 states met with more than 200 elected officials and congressional staffers during the seventh annual National Muslim Advocacy Day.]

Past participants have posted photos and commentary about National Muslim Advocacy Day on social media using the hashtag #MuslimHillDay.

Among the issues being advocated for, USCMO advocacy day delegates will be calling on Congress to reintroduce Congresswomen Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Jan Schakowsky and Senator Corey Booker’s (D-NJ) Combating International Islamophobia Act legislation to address the rise in incidents of Islamophobia worldwide.

Advocates will also be supporting the reintroduction of a resolution recognizing July as “Muslim-American Heritage Month” and celebrating the heritage and culture of Muslim Americans in the United States.

There will be a series of online training seminars for those registered before the event. USCMO will also provide a day-of-event training at Congress for all participating Muslim community members.

For more information about the event or how your Muslim organization or community can participate, please contact the USCMO at: advocacy@uscmo.org
