The Sacramento Valley/Central California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SV/CC) today welcomed hate crime charges against a man who threatened to kill a Hispanic woman and her children in Oroville.
According to the prosecutors, the man confronted a mother and her two young children in the park and threatened to kill them. Witnesses testified that he shouted racial slurs, yelled “White power” and told the victims to “go back to Mexico.” He was charged with one felony count of making criminal threats and one felony hate crime count.

“We welcome the charges against the alleged perpetrator of this horrifying act of intimidation and we’re thankful that he was not able to act on his threats,” said CAIR-SV/CC Executive Director Reshad Noorzay. “We stand in solidarity with the victims of this incident and the Hispanic community.”
CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
