(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/12/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said the far-right Israeli government’s controlled demolition of a U.N. school in Gaza is “further evidence of the ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing.”
A video shows Israeli forces blowing up the UNRWA school building in Beit Hanoun. The facility was under the complete control of Israeli forces before being intentionally destroyed. Israeli forces have demolished many other public, cultural and religious institutions and facilities in Gaza.

In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“The intentional destruction of a United Nations educational facility that invading Israeli forces fully controlled is further evidence of the ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing targeting the Palestinian people. Israel’s far-fight apartheid government cannot claim the school posed a threat since it was under the control of invading Israeli forces. Its destruction can only be linked to a desire to wipe out all Palestinian institutions and thereby make Gaza unlivable.”
Yesterday, CAIR called on the Biden administration to address reporting that the U.S. supplied the Israeli government with white phosphorus used in attacks on civilian areas.
Also yesterday, CAIR condemned another Israeli war crime after video surfaced reportedly showing Israeli forces opening fire on a group of unarmed Palestinian civilians in the West Bank, wounding one of them, and then approaching and apparently executing him.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
