CAIR Says World Media Must Be Allowed to Report on Israel’s ‘Extermination Campaign’ in Northern Gaza

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today supported a call by the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) for the far-right Israeli government to stop its “systematic attack on journalists and media infrastructure” designed to “prevent the world from seeing what Israel is doing” in its extermination campaign in northern Gaza.

CAIR said international media must be allowed to show Israel’s genocidal campaign of ethnic cleansing, mass destruction, and forced starvation.

“Israel is accused of adopting a ‘starve or leave’ policy to force Palestinians out of northern Gaza. It seems clear that the systematic attacks on the media and campaign to discredit those few journalists who remain is a deliberate tactic to prevent the world from seeing what Israel is doing there,” said CPJ Program Director Carlos Martinez de la Serna.

CJP also said: “Israel has stepped up systematic attack on journalists and media infrastructure since the start of its northern Gaza campaign…A news void is one of the direct impacts of this campaign, potentially leaving possible war crimes with no evidence or documentation.”

Just yesterday, Israel killed two sibling journalists in an UNRWA school shelter in Gaza City.

In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:

“The far-right Israeli government knows that it can hide its U.S.-enabled extermination campaign in northern Gaza from the international community if it kills or smears Palestinian journalists and prevents international media from reporting on its genocide. We urge media professionals to study the Committee to Protect Journalists analysis of Israel’s censorship and attacks on journalists, and then redouble efforts to expose the genocide to international scrutiny.”

He noted that CAIR has repeatedly called on the Biden administration to stop Israel’s extermination campaign in northern Gaza.

Last week, CAIR questioned the Biden administration’s inaction after the far-right Israeli government reportedly confirmed its ethnic cleansing of northern Gaza.

Yesterday, CAIR said the Biden administration must end its complicity with the Israeli government’s genocide against Palestinians after a UN report said 70 percent of the dead in Gaza are women and children.
