CAIR Seeks Hate Crime Probe of Threatening Letter Sent to Virginia Mosque

CAIR logo(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/1/17) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on state and federal laws enforcement authorities to investigate a threatening letter sent to a Virginia mosque as a possible hate crime.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Va., received an envelope yesterday that “had bias language written on it.” A mosque official told CAIR the letter had a foreign postmark and the phrase “kill all Muslims,” along with an image of a pig defecating on a mosque. [NOTE: Anti-Muslim bigots often use pigs or pork products to intentionally offend Muslims because of the Islamic prohibition on consuming pork products.]

“We urge local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to treat this and other cases of threats and violence targeting American mosque seriously and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” said CAIR National Communications director Ibrahim Hooper.

Yesterday, CAIR called on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate similar threatening notes sent to Maryland mosques.
