The San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today thanked U.S. Representative Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) for joining a Capitol Hill press conference on Thursday, Sept. 11, urging passage of H.R. 3565, the “Block the Bombs Act,” and calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza.

At the press conference, Rep. Simon stood with bill sponsor Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL-03), fellow members of Congress, and allies, including actors Cynthia Nixon and Morgan Spector, and Palestinian advocate Mahmoud Khalil. Together, they urged Congress to halt offensive U.S. arms to Israel and to press for a just peace. H.R. 3565 would suspend the transfer of specified offensive military equipment unless Israel complies with U.S. and international law.
In a statement, CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Zahra Billoo said:
“Rep. Lateefah Simon showed the moral clarity our communities deserve. As the Israeli government starves babies and bombs families, the very least our government can do is stop sending the weapons that make that suffering possible. H.R. 3565 is a commonsense step toward accountability and toward ending our complicity. We are grateful for Rep. Simon’s leadership, and we join her in calling for an immediate end to the genocide in Gaza.”
CAIR-SFBA also urges community members to use CAIR’s click-and-send action alert to call on their U.S. Representatives to support H.R. 3565.
CAIR-SFBA is an office of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
