The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed its support for a call by the United Nations for an investigation into mass graves around two Gaza hospitals besieged by Israeli forces this year.
The UN has called for independent and transparent investigation into the discovery of mass graves at the Al-Shifa and Nasser hospitals in Gaza. A mass grave with 324 bodies was uncovered this week at the Nasser Medical Complex in the city of Khan Younis. On April 1, at least 381 bodies were recovered from the site of the Al-Shifa hospital. The State Department has called these reports “incredibly troubling” and said they would work with the Israeli government to get more information.

In a statement, CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“We are seeing history repeat itself in Gaza. Mass graves at hospitals, entire populations displaced, civilian areas destroyed so their inhabitants can never return – this is a genocide by any definition. We support the UN’s call for an investigation into these mass graves and urge the Biden administration to support it, call for an immediate ceasefire, and end its funding of this genocide.”
He noted that yesterday, CAIR called on the Biden administration to act on the findings of a recent State Department report detailing human rights abuses by the Israeli and Indian governments.
