CAIR-WA Welcomes Arrest for Alleged Anti-Asian Hate Crime

(SEATTLE, WA, 9/16/2023) – The Washington chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the arrest of a suspected for an allegedly anti-Asian attack on the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience in Seattle, Wash.

Seattle police say a man yelling racial slurs smashed windows with a sledgehammer and made anti-Asian statements, reportedly including, “The Chinese are responsible for all this, they’ve ruined my life…That’s why I came to Chinatown.”

“We must stand united against acts of prejudice and work to build a society in which every individual is treated with dignity, regardless of their background,” said Imraan Siddiqi, CAIR-WA’s executive director. “This incident serves as a stark reminder of the work that still needs to be done to eradicate intolerance and promote understanding and acceptance among all members of our community.”   

He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging white supremacy, antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and all other forms of bigotry.
