CAIR Welcomes Arrest in Oregon White Supremacist Vandalism Targeting Synagogue

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the arrest of a suspect in the white supremacist vandalism targeting a synagogue in Eugene, Oregon.

A man was arrested on Wednesday on four counts of second-degree bias crime for allegedly vandalizing a synagogue on multiple occasions. The man is accused of spray painting the words “white power” on the synagogue on January 14.

“No house of worship should be targeted with hateful vandalism,” said CAIR National Communications Manager Ismail Allison. “We welcome the arrest of a suspect in this case and urge law enforcement authorities to ensure all houses of worship are protected from intimidation and attack.”

Allison urged religious institutions of all faiths to make use of CAIR’s Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety guide and implement security measures.

He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
