CAIR Welcomes Charges for Racist Threats Targeting West Virginia Law Enforcement Officer

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the filing of charges against a man who allegedly made racist threats against a law enforcement officer in Monongalia County, West Virginia.

According to authorities, the suspect “would only refer to [the deputy] as a racial slur,” and “claimed he was superior due to being white and claim this was a reason he wanted to take [the deputy’s] life.”

In a statement, CAIR said:

“We welcome the charges in this disturbing case. No one – whether a law enforcement officer or a member of the public – should be subjected to allegedly bias-motivated threats or harassment. Federal, state and local law enforcement authorities should take all such alleged threats seriously and continue to combat rising hate-fueled violence.”

Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
