(WASHINGTON D.C., 3/28/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today an effort by U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) remove a racist slur “sq***” targeting Native American women from 660 geographic features across the nation.

“We welcome the effort by the Department of the Interior to remove a racist slur targeting Native American women from landmarks across the nation and hope this sends the message that bigotry targeting minority communities will not be tolerated or excused,” said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ismail Allison.
Allison noted that CAIR recently condemned racist incidents targeting Native American people in South Dakota and Minnesota.

He said the American Muslim community and CAIR are standing in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and white supremacy.
