(WASHINGTON D.C., 7/25/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the firing of a Lexington, Miss. police chief after a racist, expletive-laced recording said to be him was made public.
On Wednesday, Lexington’s Board of Aldermen voted to remove the city’s police chief after what is believed recording of him going on a racist tirade was made public. In the recording, which was made by a former Lexington police officer, the chief can reportedly be heard using multiple racial epithets and bragging about shooting a suspect at least 119 times.

“Anyone who holds views like those expressed in the recording cannot be trusted to uphold the law equally for all,” said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ismail Allison. “We welcome the decision of the Board of Aldermen to dismiss the police chief and urge law enforcement authorities nationwide to ensure that racism is not tolerated in their agencies.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.
