CAIR Welcomes Hate Crime Charges for Alleged Threats, Paintball Shooting Targeting Black Men in W. Va.

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/14/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed hate crime charges against a couple who allegedly threatened two Black men in Weston, W. Va.

A couple from Jane Lew has been charged with a hate crime after police say they shouted vulgarities before reportedly shooting one of the men with a paintball gun. Officers received a complaint on Thursday evening that the couple pulled up to a home and began yelling racial slurs at a Black man. One of the alleged assailants then reportedly shot him with a paintball gun. About 12 minutes later, police received another complaint that the same couple were allegedly threatening to kill a Black man at a gas station.
