CAIR Welcomes Import Ban on 29 Chinese Companies Over Uyghur Forced Labor

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the addition of 29 Chinese companies to the list of entities using forced labor involving Uyghur minorities.

The companies were added to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List, which blocks imports linked to human rights violations and genocide in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Those companies allegedly use forced Uyghur labor to produce goods for industries ranging from agriculture and pharmaceutics to bioscience.

“We welcome the ban on imports of any entity profiting from the Chinese government’s genocidal actions in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We urge other nations to similarly target the Chinese government and other governments around the world involved in genocide and human rights abuses.”

He said that earlier this month, CAIR welcomed a ban on the entry to the United States of products produced by Esquel Group, one of the world’s largest textile and apparel companies, over allegations it uses forced Uyghur labor.

Hooper added that last month, CAIR welcomed DHS banning two Chinese companies over their reported use of Uyghur slave labor.

He noted that CAIR has previously welcomed the banning of Chinese companies using slave labor.
