The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the awarding of a Pulitzer Prize victory for breaking news photography to Palestinian photographer Saher Alghorra, who covered Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Alghorra, a New York Times contributor, won for a series that Pulitzer Administrator Marjorie Miller described as “haunting” and “sensitive.” The images illustrated the starvation and destruction resulting from Israel’s genocide in Gaza since October 2023.

In a statement, CAIR said:
“We welcome this much-deserved Pulitzer Prize for Mr. Alghorra’s crucially important documenting of Israel’s genocide and forced starvation of the Palestinian people of Gaza. Journalists have been among the foremost heroes over the past three years of Israel’s assault on Gaza. They have exposed the realities of this genocidal rogue state to the world and have successfully dismantled the propaganda and lies it was trying to spread in order to cover up and justify its crimes against humanity.”
