(WASHINGTON, D.C., 4/18/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the upcoming renaming of Louisiana’s largest National Guard complex, Camp Beauregard in Pineville, La., as Louisiana National Guard Training Center Pineville.
According to the Louisiana National Guard, the renaming will occur at a ceremony later this year. The complex is currently named after Confederate Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard.

“No American military installation should bear the name of traitors to our nation who defended slavery and white supremacy,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We welcome this upcoming change and hope all remnants of the Confederacy are similarly removed.”
Hooper noted that earlier this month, CAIR welcomed the decision to rename the U.S. Army’s Fort Rucker in Alabama as Fort Novosel.
Earlier this year, CAIR welcomed the renaming of a U.S. Navy ship named for a battle won by the Confederacy during the Civil War.
He said Washington, D.C., based CAIR has repeatedly called for the removal of Confederate names, holidays, flags, statues, and symbols nationwide.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
