CAIR Welcomes Sentence for Racial Harassment Targeting Hispanic Homes, Businesses in Iowa

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the sentencing of a man who posted racist flyers on the homes and businesses of Hispanic people in Hampton, Iowa.

The man was charged with eight counts of second-degree harassment and one count of trespass with intent to commit a hate crime. He was sentenced to two years of probation. He reportedly posted threatening, racist flyers on the homes and businesses of Hispanic people in Hampton in June.

“We welcome the sentence in this disturbing case and stand in solidarity with the Hispanic community of Iowa and all those targeted by bigotry,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “No one deserves to be harassed at their homes and businesses on the basis of their ethnicity.”

He noted that yesterday, CAIR condemned vandalism targeting Hispanic businesses in Muscatine, Iowa.
