(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/21/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the sentencing of a Mississippi man for threatening to carry out a race war.
Authorities said Aubrey Suzuki, 21, messaged members of a white nationalist organization, made threats to wage a race war and made several statements about Nazi and white supremacist ideology. He was arrested after agents learned that he was in the process of purchasing an AR-15 rifle from an online dealer. He was sentenced to 2½ years in prison.
U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner said, “The defendant in this case made credible threats to shoot members of various minority groups, and then purchased a semi-automatic rifle. While all Americans enjoy a constitutional right to free speech, that right does not include a right to threaten or terrorize other individuals.”

“We welcome this sentencing as an indication that threats of racist violence will not be tolerated and that those who make such threats will face the full force of the law,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Racists, white supremacists and other bigots must know they will be held accountable for threats targeting minority communities.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.
