(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/11/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the sentencing of the perpetrator of a racist assault targeting a Latino father and son in Utah in 2018.
A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for brutally beating a Latino father and son outside their tire shop in 2018. During the attack, the man reportedly shouted that he wanted to “kill Mexicans.”

“We welcome the sentencing of the perpetrator of this brutal assault and hope this brings some solace to the victims,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We hope this sentence serves as a deterrent to others who would act on their hatred.”
Hooper said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
