CAIR Welcomes South Africa, Malaysia, Colombia Blocking Ships Carrying Israeli Arms from Ports

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a decision by the governments of South Africa, Malaysia and Colombia to prevent ships carrying weapons shipments for Israel from using their ports. CAIR also urged other nations to follow suit

The leaders of South Africa, Malaysia and Colombia wrote a joint article calling for the Israeli government to be held accountable for its war crimes. In the article, they said they would prevent any ships carrying weapons shipments to Israel from docking at their ports.

The article reads in part:

“Our governments will comply with the warrants issued by the ICC against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, emphasizing appropriate, fair, and independent investigations and prosecutions at the national or international level; we will prevent vessels carrying military supplies to Israel from using our ports; and we will prevent all arms transfers that risk enabling further violations of humanitarian law.”

South Africa, Malaysia, Colombia say they will prevent ships supplying Israel weapons using ports

In a statement, CAIR said:

“We thank the governments of South Africa, Malaysia and Colombia for taking a stand against the genocidal Israeli government and not allowing shipments of weapons that they will use to kill innocent civilians to dock at their ports. We urge other nations to follow their example and block arms shipments to Israel from their ports. The nations of the world cannot continue to sit back and watch as the Israeli government violates every article of international law and commits some of the worst atrocities we’ve seen in decades.”

He noted that CAIR previously welcomed South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel at the International Criminal Court.
