The Council on American‑Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today commended the government of Spain for approving a full arms embargo on Israel and urged other nations to adopt similar measures.
Spain’s Council of Ministers has approved a “total” arms embargo on Israel, escalating pressure on Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government over the killing of Palestinians in Gaza. The embargo includes bans on arms exports, fuel transit, and imports of products and services from the occupied territories.

“Spain’s embargo marks an important step toward accountability and solidarity with Palestinians facing extermination at the hands of the Israeli government,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “More governments – starting with our own nation – must act to restrict military support to the genocidal Israeli government and put pressure on it to cease its atrocities.”
In August, CAIR welcomed a German arms embargo on Israel over its genocide in Gaza.
Earlier this month, CAIR called on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and other members of Congress who claim to support human rights to stop denying the Gaza genocide and support an arms embargo on the Israeli government after the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) overwhelmingly passed a resolution declaring that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
