The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed reports that Britain’s new government will withdraw objections to a possible International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged the Biden administration to follow suit.
The New York Times reports that Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to drop the previous government’s objections to the ICC warrant. The International Criminal Court (ICC) is expected to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant within weeks.
“If reports that the new British government will drop its objections to the pursuit of an ICC arrest warrant for the war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu are true, that would be a welcome decision that the Biden administration should also take,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “The daily evidence of Israel’s war crimes, forced starvation, ethnic cleansing, mass destruction, and genocide is clear, and the ICC has a duty to file charges against Netanyahu and others responsible for those genocidal human rights abuses.”
He noted that in May, CAIR called on the Biden administration to respect and not interfere with the “clear and credible” arrest warrant applications that the ICC prosecutor is seeking and condemned Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s implicit threat to help Republicans in Congress impose sanctions on ICC.
Yesterday, Awadspoke at the Washington, D.C., protest against Netanyahu’s address to Congress. In his address, Awad said “there is a war criminal in town.” “This war criminal Netanyahu has a long history of crimes against humanity,” said Awad.

CAIR recently welcomed a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), or World Court, that Israel’s settlement policies and exploitation of natural resources in the occupied Palestinian territories is unlawful and must end.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
